I am graduated from the University of Texas at Austin majoring in Multimedia Journalism and minoring in American Sign Language. In 2012, I played a part in the integral digital development team on President Obama’s re-election campaign. There I learned a bulk of my skills in web development and website design, as well as a few Computer Management Systems and web coding languages. I have a passion for writing and strive to eventually be able to produce my own media publication online.
Data and Research Assistant with UTeach Institute
I work on compiling data and information of students and teaching programs. This job requires the use of Excel spreadsheets and Qualtrics survey software, along with in-house software built for the institute.
Software Developer at Blue Moon Software
Blue Moon Software specializes in form processing software and distributing official lease forms for the Texas Apartment Association. I generated different kinds of online lease forms for distribution to apartment complexes the company was in association with using Adobe Reader.
Digital Development with Obama for America
As a part of President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign, my job as a digital development intern was to construct contribute websites for barackobama.com, Net Magazine’s #2 HTML 5 website of 2012, using GitHub, Jekyll, and basic HTML and CSS design. I helped integrate both online and offline organizing at the campaign headquarters by assisting with the development of tools such as Dashboard. Over the course of my internship, I learned much more than a couple of web savvy skills and learned to take on responsibilities amongst other interns and develop a quick sense of problem solving under much pressure and strict deadlines.
NAACP Legal Defense Fund Deputy in the case of Fisher v. UT
I spoke on behalf of UT’s students of color to media outlets on the use of affirmative action as it is currently used in college admissions. We were briefed by members of the NAACP on the inner-workings of the policy and sat in on Supreme Court hearings.
Associate Director for the Underrepresented Students Agency at the University of Texas at Austin
My agency’s two main priorities were to recruit underrepresented individuals to the school and retaining said students through interactive guided tours for incoming minority students and monthly programs ensuring these students felt comfortable at UT.
National Association of Black Journalists Vice President
As a national organization, the University of Texas at Austin’s chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) strives to provide essential necessities for the growth of black writers. As vice president, I supported the president and ensured the growth of our demographic in the journalism community.
SHARE (Students Helping Admissions Recruitment Effort) Volunteer
As an extension of the University of Texas’s Undergraduate Admissions Center, the Students Helping Admissions’ Recruitment Effort (SHARE) work with admissions counselors and prospective UT students.
